Red Lights

In "Medyum," as Tom Buckley becomes increasingly obsessed with exposing Simon Silver as a fraud, his mentor Dr. Margaret Matheson is more cautious, warning Tom about the dangers of confronting Silver. Unfortunately, Margaret dies mysteriously, leaving Tom to pursue Silver on his own. Driven by his obsession, Tom sets up a series of tests to expose Silver during a public demonstration. Tom's investigation leads him to believe that Silver is using subtle tricks to manipulate the environment and the minds of those around him. In a climactic encounter, Tom confronts Silver, only for Silver to manipulate him into doubting his own perceptions. The tension reaches its peak when Tom realizes that he himself possesses psychic abilities, which he had been unconsciously suppressing. In the end, Tom acknowledges his powers and accepts the irony of having spent so much time trying to debunk what he himself could do. The film closes with Tom embracing his abilities, leaving the audience with the twist that the skeptic becomes part of the phenomena he once sought to disprove.
