Season 1
After a global pandemic destroys civilization, a hardened survivor takes charge of a 14-year-old girl who may be humanity's last hope.
Season Ending
In the season finale of "The Last of Us," Joel and Ellie finally reach the Firefly hospital in Salt Lake City. Joel quickly learns that Ellie is being prepped for surgery to extract a potential cure from her brain, a procedure that will inevitably kill her. Not exactly thrilled about this little detail, Joel decides it's time to go rogue. Joel storms through the hospital, taking out anyone who stands between him and Ellie. He finds her unconscious in the operating room and, in a rather direct method of conflict resolution, shoots the lead surgeon before carrying Ellie out. They make their escape, with Joel telling a few more lies than usual when Ellie finally wakes up. On their drive back to Tommy’s settlement, Ellie confronts Joel about what happened at the hospital. Joel sticks to his story that there are others like her and that the Fireflies had stopped looking for a cure. The season wraps up with them arriving at Tommy's place, and Ellie asking Joel to swear he's telling the truth. He swears, and she reluctantly accepts it — but you can almost see the wheels turning in her head as they head towards an uncertain future.
