Good Night was the first ever Simpsons short to air on The Tracey Ullman Show. The five main family members - Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie - were first introduced in this short. Homer and Marge attempt to calm their children to sleep, with the opposite results. Maggie can be heard saying "good night". She rarely talks throughout the run of the series.

Episode Ending

The first episode of "The Simpsons," titled "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire," wraps up with a heartwarming twist. After a series of unfortunate events, including Homer not getting his expected Christmas bonus and Bart getting a tattoo that Marge has to spend the family's Christmas savings to remove, the family is left in a financial bind for the holiday season. In an attempt to salvage Christmas, Homer secretly takes on a job as a mall Santa but earns a meager paycheck. Desperate to make some extra money, Homer and Bart go to the dog track, hoping to win big by betting on a longshot greyhound named Santa's Little Helper. Predictably, the dog loses, and they leave the track empty-handed. However, the night takes an unexpected turn when Santa's Little Helper is abandoned by his owner for losing the race. The dog follows Homer and Bart home, much to their delight. Despite the day's disappointments, they return to the family with Santa's Little Helper, who becomes their new pet. The episode concludes with the Simpson family embracing their new dog, finding joy in their newfound companion rather than material gifts.
