Season Ending
Season 3 of "The Simpsons" wraps up with the episode "Brother, Can You Spare Two Dimes?" In this finale, Homer's half-brother Herb Powell returns to Springfield. Herb, previously ruined by Homer, is now living in poverty and has a plan to regain his wealth. He comes to the Simpson household with an invention idea that he believes will make him rich again. Herb's big plan is to create a baby translator — a device that translates baby sounds into understandable speech. Despite their previous history, Homer decides to help Herb by investing the award money he received for being exposed to nuclear radiation at work. After some ups and downs, Herb successfully develops the translator and markets it, leading to his financial comeback. With his new wealth, Herb repays Homer by buying gifts for the family, including a vibrating chair for Homer and a fresh start for himself. The episode ends on a high note as Herb thanks the Simpsons for their support and leaves Springfield with renewed hope, setting off into the sunset in his limousine. Homer's relationship with his brother is mended, proving once again that even in the chaotic world of Springfield, family ties can prevail.
