S4E18: So It's Come to This: A Simpsons Clip Show
An April Fools' Day prank provides the jumping-off point for Simpson family flashbacks.
Episode Ending
In "Simpsons - S4E18: So It's Come to This: A Simpsons Clip Show," things kick off with Bart pulling a prank on Homer for April Fool's Day by shaking a can of beer so much that it explodes, landing Homer in a coma. The family is distraught, naturally, but this setup gives the writers an excuse to take us on a trip down memory lane with flashbacks from previous episodes. As Homer lies unconscious in the hospital, the family reminisces about past antics and misadventures, leading to a series of clips highlighting the best of Homer’s, and occasionally other characters’, escapades. It's like a greatest hits album, but with more yellow skin and fewer number-one singles. Eventually, Bart feels guilty about his role in the whole debacle and confesses to an unconscious Homer. In true sitcom fashion, Homer wakes up just in time to strangle Bart, as is their loving custom. The episode wraps up with the family united and Homer back to his usual self, which is to say not very different from being in a coma.
