S5E15: Deep Space Homer

In "The Simpsons" Season 5, Episode 15, titled "Deep Space Homer," we see Homer Simpson go from an ordinary safety inspector to a NASA astronaut. After being selected as a civilian representative to boost public interest in the space program, Homer finds himself in a shuttle alongside seasoned astronauts. Once in space, things don't go smoothly. Homer's antics cause a bag of potato chips to float around the cabin, creating chaos. In an attempt to clean up the mess, he inadvertently breaks an ant farm, and the ants start floating too. This leads to a false alarm back on Earth that the shuttle is being destroyed by an alien life form. Despite the chaos, Homer manages to save the day by heroically closing an open hatch. They return to Earth safely, and Homer is celebrated as a hero, with a ticker-tape parade in Springfield. In classic Homer fashion, his brief stint as an astronaut ends with him back on the couch at home, watching TV with his family.
