When Mayor Quimby uses immigrants as a political scapegoat, the Simpsons discover that Apu is an illegal immigrant.
Episode Ending
In "Simpsonlar - S7E23," also known as "Much Apu About Nothing," the episode wraps up with the townspeople of Springfield voting on Proposition 24, which aims to deport illegal immigrants. Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, fearing for his status, decides to take the U.S. citizenship test. Apu crams for the test with the help of Lisa Simpson, who tutors him on American history and civics. When the big day arrives, Apu successfully passes the test and becomes a proud American citizen, much to his relief and that of his friends. Meanwhile, Homer Simpson, who initially supported Proposition 24, changes his mind after realizing the impact it would have on Apu and other immigrant friends. At the end of the episode, it is revealed that the proposition narrowly fails, allowing Apu and others to stay in Springfield. The residents celebrate the outcome, as life returns to its usual chaos in Springfield.
