Homer decides to buy a computer after turning up to the Plant to find it closed by e-mail. He then creates his own website and it eventually gains attention when he posts gossip. Homer dubs himself as "Mr. X" to conceal his identity. When he reveals that he is Mr. X, he becomes drugged into a mysterious island where people who know too much are imprisoned after Homer starts writing conspiracy theories such as flu shots.

In "Simpsonlar - S12E6: Episode 6," also known as "The Computer Wore Menace Shoes," Homer gets a taste of internet fame when he starts a website filled with made-up gossip and rumors. His success skyrockets when he fabricates a wild story about flu shots being used to control minds, which, naturally, everyone believes because why wouldn't they? Homer's tall tales catch the attention of a mysterious organization, and they abduct him to an island that bears a striking resemblance to the one from "The Prisoner." There, Homer meets others who have also been silenced for knowing too much. The island is run by Number Two, who tries to brainwash Homer into revealing his sources, but let's face it, Homer doesn't have any. In true Homer fashion, he manages to escape by using a weather balloon as a makeshift boat. He returns home, only to find that no one believed his stories in the first place and life in Springfield goes back to its usual chaos. The episode wraps with Homer's family dismissing his adventure as just another one of his outlandish fantasies.
