Bart learns that he was once a child actor in commercials and that all the money earned was spent by Homer. In retaliation, Bart petitions the court to have himself legally emancipated from his parents and moves out of the Simpson house. Bart is initially miserable in his new apartment, but discovers that skateboarder Tony Hawk lives on one of the floors above. He and Hawk become friends, and Bart is content with his new life. Homer apologizes to Bart and requests that he return home. Bart accepts the apology, but tells his family that he is going on tour with Hawk. At an event, Homer speaks to Bart and finally promises Bart that he will never treat him badly again.

Episode Ending

In "The Simpsons" Season 14, Episode 11, titled "Barting Over," Bart discovers he was once a child star in a commercial for a product called "Baby Stink Breath." Not thrilled with his parents' handling of his earnings, Bart takes the drastic step of seeking legal emancipation. The court surprisingly grants it, and Bart moves out to live on his own. Bart sets up in a loft, relishing his newfound freedom, but soon realizes the challenges of independence. His loft neighbors include skateboarding legend Tony Hawk and rock star Blink-182, who make cameo appearances. Meanwhile, Homer, feeling the loss of Bart, tries to win him back through various misguided attempts. The climax involves a skateboarding showdown between Homer and Tony Hawk at a concert. Homer's antics on the skateboard impress Bart enough to consider returning home. In the end, they reconcile, and Bart moves back in with the family. The episode closes with the family reunited, albeit with Bart now having gained some autonomy and maturity from his brief stint on his own.
