Season Ending
In the season finale of "The Simpsons" Season 16, titled "The Father, the Son, and the Holy Guest Star," Bart gets expelled from Springfield Elementary. This happens after a prank involving a fake plague scare goes predictably wrong. As a result, Marge enrolls him in St. Jerome's Catholic School, where Bart meets Father Sean, voiced by Liam Neeson — because why not throw in a celebrity voice while we're at it? Father Sean manages to make Catholicism appealing to Bart through a series of engaging lessons and activities. Meanwhile, Homer becomes intrigued by the faith after realizing that Catholic Mass involves free wine. He starts attending with Bart, much to Marge's horror. She tries to bring them back to their Protestant roots with Reverend Lovejoy and Ned Flanders in tow. The climax involves a tug-of-war for Bart's soul between the Catholics and the Protestants. Eventually, Bart decides he likes elements of both faiths and opts for a hybrid approach — which, in typical Simpson style, is less about theological discourse and more about keeping everyone happy. The episode wraps up with Homer continuing to enjoy his newfound appreciation for Catholicism’s perks, mainly the food and drink, while Marge begrudgingly accepts Bart's decision. And there you have it: another day in Springfield, balancing chaos and compromise with a dash of religious satire.
