S18E19: Crook and Ladder
Homer, Apu, Moe and Skinner volunteer as firemen after Homer's sleepwalking accident injures the town's firefighters. They do some light looting at the fires to make up for not being compensated, but Marge and Lisa shame them into mending their ways.
Episode Ending
In "The Simpsons" Season 18, Episode 19, titled "Crook and Ladder," the episode wraps up with Homer, Moe, Apu, and Skinner being celebrated as heroes after they take over firefighting duties due to the regular firemen being out of commission. However, things take a turn when the group starts stealing from the sites they save, justifying it as a "hero tax." Their thieving spree hits a snag when they accidentally set fire to their own homes. In a twist of irony, they end up having to extinguish the blaze they started. Realizing the error of their ways, they decide to return all the stolen goods. The episode concludes with the original firemen returning to their jobs and everything going back to normal in Springfield. The temporary firefighters hang up their helmets and resume their regular lives, no worse for wear except for maybe a bit more smoke-smell in their clothes than usual.
