S0E1: Rick and Morty The Non-Canonical Adventures: The Thing

"Rick and Morty" Season 0, Episode 1 is actually the pilot episode of the series. In it, Rick drags Morty out of school and into an adventure that involves traveling to a different dimension to collect seeds of "mega-trees." Morty ends up breaking his legs during the process, but Rick fixes them with some futuristic technology. As they try to return home, they get stopped by interdimensional customs agents. Rick convinces Morty to hide the seeds inside his own body to sneak them through security. This causes Morty immense pain and discomfort, but they manage to escape back to their dimension. Once home, Morty's parents are worried about his frequent absences from school. Rick manages to convince them that Morty's adventures are essential for his education, even though it's clear they're anything but. The episode wraps up with Rick ranting about how they'll continue going on more dangerous adventures, setting the tone for the chaos that defines their relationship throughout the series.
