In the season finale of "Rick and Morty" Season 2, things take a wild turn at Birdperson’s wedding to Tammy, a member of the Galactic Federation. The happy occasion quickly spirals into chaos when Tammy reveals herself as a Federation agent and guns down Birdperson, which is kind of a bummer for the whole "happily ever after" vibe. Rick and the family barely escape the Federation's clutches, going on the run across the galaxy. They hop from planet to planet, trying to find refuge, but it's not exactly a relaxing family road trip with the galaxy’s most wanted scientist in tow. Eventually, they settle on a tiny, desolate planet that seems safe enough — if you're into desolate. In a surprising move, Rick turns himself in to the Galactic Federation to protect his family. He’s carted off to an intergalactic prison while his family returns home, now under Federation control. The final scene shows Rick sitting in his cell, listening to "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails as the camera pulls away, leaving us to wonder what will happen next.
