Episode Ending
In "Rick and Morty" Season 2, Episode 3, titled "Auto Erotic Assimilation," things get predictably bizarre. The episode kicks off with Rick, Morty, and Summer discovering a planet under the control of Unity, a hive mind and one of Rick's old flames. Unity's goal is to assimilate all individuals into a singular consciousness, and while Morty and Summer have mixed feelings about this, Rick dives right into rekindling his romance. As the episode progresses, Unity begins to struggle with maintaining control due to Rick's influence, which leads to chaotic results. Morty and Summer witness the darker side of assimilation when a small group of aliens temporarily break free, only to be re-assimilated in violent fashion. Meanwhile, Rick's partying with Unity escalates into a wild spree that further destabilizes the collective. Ultimately, Unity decides that being with Rick is too destructive for its hive mind and leaves him a heartfelt note before departing. Rick returns to Earth with Morty and Summer, feeling more isolated than ever. The episode ends on a somber note as Rick attempts to take his own life in his garage but ultimately passes out from drinking before he can go through with it, leaving viewers with a rare glimpse of his vulnerability.
